E-bikes make it so much easier for people to leave the car at home for their local errands. Incredible potential for mobility freedom in the US, even in the sprawled out zones.

Alaska is doing some impressive innovating in their remote rural areas. Too often states think of rural places as the same and stagnant. Alaska is leading the way.

This is a great accomplishment. Support for TOD will make for more walkable, prosperous communities while making our transportation more effective. Congratulations to U.S. Department of Transportation
and especially Christopher Coes who conceived this idea a decade ago.

To be clear, I am glad for this technology. We should do everything to say lives. But we use tech that saves a few lives to get out of designing our roads well and say tens of thousands of lives.

We have a crisis of roadway deaths in this country—and today we’re taking a major step toward addressing this with our new rule on automatic emergency braking.

We've had the technology to fix this for decades and the rest of the developed world already implemented it--design the roads for slow driving and active transportation. USDOT makes that hard and has not taken down the barriers they have identified themselves.

We unfortunately forgot to take a photo, but wanted to express gratitude to Brianne K. Nadeau for meeting with families yesterday. Thank you for supporting upholding Schools First in Budgeting and working towards ensuring DC is . cc Phil Mendelson

When I worked at USDOT, I used to regularly have meetings with school districts that built their schools like this only to realize they couldn't possibly afford to bus their students to their new school.

I adore , but he is going to a tough franchise. But even he isn't enough to get me to forking Landover for a game.

Honored to speak at CPEX’s Louisiana Smart Growth Summit about how and why to do street safety demonstration and tactical urbanism projects with Mayor White from City of Abbeville and Michelle Reynolds from Move Bunkie Forward who have been doing them in their hometowns

1/🧵 Let's talk about why correctly identifying the problem matters for successful policy development.

Like many cities, Toledo in the 1950s was suffering from pretty heavy out-migration and downtown businesses were feeling the pinch.

So what was the central problem? Well...

It's pretty simple: Cities that want more people to bike shouldn't force cyclists to ride alongside fast cars.

'Substantial speed differentials between bikes and motor vehicles are a barrier to bike riding.'

i can't believe that sesame street told me that adulthood would be hanging out with my neighbors in diverse, walkable communities, but it turned out to be 14-hour email jobs to pay for an apartment in increasingly gentrified, car-centric cities

Induced demand is great if you like higher taxes, more congestion & longer trips. Our highway program causes decentralized land use by displacing people/business and prohibiting infill.

We don't believe in stovepipes of excellence Smart Growth America. Transpo and land use interact.

Unfortunately he ducked the question. Secretary Pete Buttigieg went right into fixing past damage. It isn't his fault, but the IIJA fully allows projects that cause the same damage this project is fixing. It is this administration's fault that they pretend that isn't true.

Not if you slow them down. PEOPLE might crash (we don't have AVs yet) but it isn't deadly at 20 mph. The subtext is we can't seek to slow travel by a fraction even if it doesn't actually save time and it kills people.

What they mean is: we would really like people of all ages to bike in unsafe conditions and not get hurt.

I'd like great city services without paying taxes. I'm sure those same leaders would see my wish as equally reasonable to theirs.
