We need data on perpetrators & victims, along with identifying if illicit weapons or state-provided service weapons contribute to CRSV.

This requires strong collaboration with CSOs & support for survivors.

As the President-designate of #RevCon4 , I thank Malta at the UN 🇲🇹🇺🇳 for today’s debate.

Arms are not the only root cause of #CRSV .

It begins before conflict breaks out & continues well after the last armed hostility.

#CRSV is often facilitated by small arms & light weapons.

Tackling illicit #SALW is one of the most critical tools to torrefy #CRSV .

I urge the women & peace & security experts to engage & collaborate closely in the Review Conference in June to advance gender-responsive arms control.

#CRSV is not an inevitable consequence of conflict.

“We must instead view each veto instance as an opportunity for collective action and reflection and step forward as an emboldened, assertive #UNGA .

And after this year, Costa Rica is more confident that the Veto Initiative is a step for real change, said Amb Maritza Chan.

The Veto Initiative is two years old today.

The initiative embodies a collective call for justice, not merely a power shift sought by many States.

It envisions the #UNGA assuming its rightful role as the nexus of global cooperation across all pillars of the UN.

Today, Costa Rica & Simon Institute for Longterm Governance hosted 2 workshops to empower delegations for GDC negotiations.

Our capacity to act depends on our knowledge.

Disagreements often arise from a lack of shared understanding.

Building consensus for effective outcomes is key.

The upcoming High-level meeting on sea level rise is a chance to:

🐟Bring together expertise, avoid duplication, & foster collaboration

🐟Break silos, galvanize partnerships & support in order to address this issue

🐟Prove that multilateralism can deliver

Today we are celebrating the third informal consultations on the modalities of the high-level meeting addressing the existential threats posed by sea level rise, pursuant to General Assembly decision 78/544 of 16 January 2024.

The process is lead New Zealand & Costa Rica.🇳🇿🇨🇷🌊

There's still time to craft a political declaration our leaders can endorse in September.

It must be ambitious, grounded in good faith& call for new commitments, decisions, & actions.
