An inclusive Trauma System is a network of facilities cooperating to care for you in the event of injury. It features improved patient care and outcomes, effective use of limited resources, and minimised variations in care provided across the system

Prevention, Reception & Intervention, Rehabilitation, Pre-Hospital Care & Retrieval, Reconstruction & Ongoing Care

We know from international experience and research that concentrating major trauma into dedicated units within a Trauma System is associated with improved access to care, reduced length of stay and better outcomes for patients

1/4 🧵 Background to a #TraumaSystemForIreland
What is trauma?
Trauma in this context refers to physical injuries of sudden onset and severity which require immediate medical attention. Severe injuries, which can cause prolonged disability or death, are known as ‘major trauma’
8/8 Injury Units
The Injury Unit network provides you with emergency care for non life or limb-threatening injuries as conveniently as possible. Injury Units will be integrated into the Trauma System to provide seamless, efficient and safe trauma care
#TraumaSystemForIreland
7/8 Trauma Units
Trauma Units are hospitals that will accept trauma patients who don’t require the expertise of an MTC. Trauma Units will deliver definitive care to you as appropriate, and safely and efficiently transfer you to the MTC or TUSS if required
