Heartening meeting with the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, just now. He gets the climate challenge & understands that Britain needs to think long & invest in the economy of the 21st C. He wants to show leadership and rightly seeks institutional support. He should be supported in this.

A missed opportunity to boost living standards in the longer-term. It is unlikely the UK economy can bear any further cuts to public investment, already among the lowest in the developed world. The fourth industrial revolution is in danger of passing us by. Bennett Institute for Public Policy

Today’s Budget prioritised tax cuts, with 2% off national insurance contributions. This was anticipated, given we are in an election year – but it marks another missed opportunity to boost living standards in the longer-term. Listen up Labour, it is economically incoherent to say you cannot afford a growth strategy.

It is internally inconsistent and self-contradictory to say you cannot afford a growth plan. If you understand why it's a growth plan, then you understand why you cannot delay it. The alternative is more short-termism.

Economic models have their limitations & can be dangerous, but used to address the right questions, they are useful. Mindful of the damage economists have done applying models inappropriately, we have decided to build one ourselves. Here’s why:
