Financial Accountability and Management has published an article on place-based accountability from Laurence Ferry, Henry Midgley, Aileen Murphie and me. Likely to be very pertinent in coming months and years as metro-mayors embed in English governance onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/fa…

This is good: both about financial sustainability of universities but also for the defence of the humanities. I did history at university and everything I did National Audit Office and PACAC Committee was based on the teaching I got about evidence and political ideas in my degree.

Henry Midgley Duncan Robinson The old Westminster and London constituencies (the latter having 4 seats) were amongst the most prestigious and were both boroughs. Also to note that the borough/county distinction still exists.

Henry Midgley Duncan Robinson You’re still right to a degree that many of the others mentioned in this thread would be counties. ‘Knights of the Shire’ still has some appeal.

Jill Rutter Henry Midgley Completely agree. I was thinking instead of DPUP calling it Dept of Neighbourhood Renewal. Descriptive, poetic, Blair era policy pedigree. Unfortunate acronym though..

Henry Midgley Jill Rutter I think the Inquiry is making it absolutely clear why horrendous mistakes were made. Perhaps you just don’t like being brought face to face with Johnson and his team’s incompetence and laziness.
