it is a rather windy place 🌪️
I'd be anticipating capacity factors for offshore wind farms in the location at least > 60%🤔
potentially > 70% 🤯
Australia really has extraordinary wind (and solar) resources
Wind critical

Grid scale battery storage is not 'battery backup.'

Batteries are active assets that improve the utilization of other parts of the grid.

An hour of battery storage at the level of a few percent of peak demand can provide ancillary services that free up thermal generation to…

I have had concerns about the direction of Coalition for Conservation for some time, but in recent months it’s become very clear the group’s values are not conservative and it has little interest in conservation. Here is my resignation letter from the organisation

🤓 the International Energy Agency projects that over the 3 years to 2026 global electricity demand will increase by ~10%.

…the peak energy body expects coal generation to shrink, gas and nuclear to increase very slightly, with renewables doing the heavy lifting.

ie. more energy, less emissions.

Lots of impressive battery announcements from CATL recently. Halving the price of their LFP batteries by mid 2024, almost doubling the energy density of a new cell to 500 Wh/kg, and now offering a 15-yr 1.5 million km warranty. thedriven.io/2024/04/03/cat…

Queensland's first hydrogen-ready power station won't be made of LEGO...

But this scale model is perfect for a quick tour.

Off grid DC charging for
Nice work The NRMA!!
Great integration of solar as a shelter as well as an energy source - tho' maybe consider more generous protection in structure in very hot places like the Nullarbor*?
(*or just very hot places like Australia?)
Anyhoo, good job!

Tyrone Dlisle Australia Institute Matt Ryan not a great example Tyrone Dlisle.

palo verde consumes 88GL of water a year, sourced from effluent from phoenix, a city with population of 1.6m. there are other potential high value uses for that water.

(a coastal plant would be a much better example for you.)

'Ask a farmer how much water that is!'

An environmental concern around nuclear reactors Matt Ryan is surprised the Nationals aren't talking more about: the massive amounts of water they require.

Dick Smith saying:
'no country has ever been able to run entirely on renewables'

Like saying in 1990: 'no country using internet'

Or in 2007: 'no one uses smartphones'

Renewables adoption into national grids early days
Key change this decade, not last
