A male Wheatear briefly stopping off in Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape this afternoon. I also espied an early Garden Warbler and a Yellow Wagtail flying over.
A quick check of the Lune near Salt Ayre was worthwhile this morning with my first Common Scoter in the area, although it soon flew downriver Lancaster & District Birdwatching
Raptorama at Foulshaw today. 3 Ospreys, many Buzzards and Kestrels, Merlin, Marsh Harrier & Red Kite. Also heard Grasshopper Warbler and enjoyed some firsts for the year: Swallow, Tree Pipit and Willow Warblers galore. Plus a great visit from Lancaster & District Birdwatching
The North West Gull group has colour ringed ~4000 juv herring and LBB #gulls in the last 6 years in Cumbria + Lancs. They should be returning to breed now & we want to know where they are! Pls look out for them & report sightings at

Plenty of Common Scoter flying over last night from about 2130 onwards. This recording was made with my dish. The rapid noise on the recording is the sound made by the birds' wings as they fly over. Lancaster & District Birdwatching
The Spotted Redshank at Conder Green showed very well on the incoming tide yesterday, just starting to show a few feathers moulting to summer plumage. Photo by Paul Slade
Our winter Twite flock seems to have done the usual spring move away from Knott End slipway to the fields around Fluke Hall and along Fluke Hall Lane, this one superbly photographed last week by Paul Ellis showing off the distinctive pink rump
Super day RSPB Leighton Moss today, there's been plenty about including:

Flocks of sand martins
Booming bitterns
The elusive green winged teal

Plus plenty more. We're open as usual this weekend.

Roughly 4,500 Black-tailed Godwit on the Lune estuary this evening. Lancaster & District Birdwatching
Videoed from 975m away so excuse the quality. There are a handful of summer plumaged birds but they don't show up too well.
Waders showing well at Potts Corner yesterday and today, and today I took my sound recorder to get some of the chatter of Knots, Bar-tailed Godwits and Grey Plovers down Lancaster & District Birdwatching
