While most of us were asleep, this piece of machinery (called a ‘tamper’) was out and about in the North Downs helping to ensure a smoother ride for trains.

Over the long weekend we've been busy making the finishing touches to a new footbridge near Otford station. We're getting ready to switch on the lights and open the bridge, removing the foot crossing. A temporary detour route is available in the meantime.

The Channel Tunnel itself is just off our patch but we play a crucial role in supporting the international passenger and freight trains that run through it on High Speed 1 (HS1), and on other parts of our railway through Kent and south London. A very happy 30th!
