Today’s ruling to prolong The Wall Street Journal Evan Gershkovich’s detention is painful, as this week marks 1 year since RU wrongfully detained him for doing his job. Evan’s case is not about evidence, due process, or rule of law. It is about using U.S. citizens as pawns for political ends.

Seven years ago today, Madj Kamalmaz was detained in Syria and his family has not heard from him since. Seven years is far too long – his family deserves resolution and the United States will continue to pursue his case.
