Happy Pet Day!

In traditional Japanese culture, cats are sacred symbols of luck, balance and protection. The maneki-neko (beckoning cat) is an iconic figure that emerged during the Edo period (1603-1868), depicting a seated cat holding gold coin, with one paw raised.

This can be translated as “tomorrow’s wind will blow tomorrow”. Which basically means don’t fret about things that have yet to come!

Happy White Day!

White Day is celebrated every year in many East Asian cultures, one month after Valentine’s Day.

The name ‘White Day’ is related to a deeper meaning in traditional Japanese culture, as the colour white symbolises purity and young love.

Happy Lunar New Year!

The year 2024 is ruled by the dragon, in the context of the ancient Chinese zodiac. These animal symbols correspond to a year in a twelve-year cycle that follows Jupiter’s orbit around the sun.

It is the season for hunting red leaves! In Japan, when maple trees show their beautiful red leaves, they become one of the highlights of autumn and part of momijigari. The name of tradition literally meaning ‘hunting red leaves’.
