26th of April is a very important day for me. My favorite joke is 'If Chornobyl never happened, I would haven't been born'. Because my dad was evacuated from the Exclusion Zone to the village where my mum lived. And now this topic is my main research.

We don’t live our lives in “story beats” but when we listen to and read stories about life, we want to hear the beats. There’s a tension there for narrative non-fiction that doesn’t stray too close to fiction.

This is v interesting to think about in terms of memoir: in real life, things just happen out of the blue — there is no “therefore…” or “but then…” — those things only exist in hindsight or in narrative fiction. This is a huge challenge in reflecting real life with honesty

This is amazing advice not just for screenwriters, but for authors.
