4 Basking Sharks feeding near Red Strand last night, in difficult lighting conditions. The last few days of settled weather has led to plenty of sightings of the 2nd biggest shark on the planet. Keep your eyes peeled!

Great evening for some shore based whale watching. 2 minke whales, 25 common dolphin & 1 harbour porpoise from Cloghna Head. Short clip of a dolphin feeding from the same spot last year. Rory Jackson West Cork Ocean Tours has plenty of space next few days if you want to see some blubber.

We have become ingenious at thinking up the most efficient ways of eliminating nature.

And no: bird feeders or 'bug hotels' *can't* actually make up for destroyed habitat.

Definitely feeling like spring on the local patch this morning. A handful of freshly arrived Willow Warblers singing away alongside a background chorus of Chiffchaffs that have been around for the last week or more.

In we build or farm on floodplains and then Office of Public Works spend millions downstream trying to stop flooding with concrete, wrecking habitats. We could be letting nature do the job for us!

Isn't it amazing that we can hear Woodpeckers in Ireland now!?

Listen out for their explosive drumming displays soon. Dead standing wood is essential for these. Please don't chop down, if safe to leave be!

What a wonderful addition to our soundscape 😍

What was your first bird in 2024?

Mine wasn't this Rock Dove. I heard a House Sparrow and actually saw a Collared Dove.

It’s not hard to imagine the devastating impact they have on the ocean.

What if there was a solution to the issues of flooding, drought, water quality, biodiversity loss and even fires with no major infrastructure, lengthy planning permissions or costly technology, minimal maintenance and was cheap and easy to implement...

Don't buy the industry + government hype. Monoculture tree plantations do NOT help against climate breakdown: they worsen it.

They spell death for nature + local communities too.

We need more REAL, not fake, forests.
