The bank of the Seine in Paris. This used to be surrendered space for cars. For several years now it’s been a special place for people. All it took was leadership. Including fighting and winning a court battle when that leadership was challenged. HT Emmanuel for the great pic

Once politicians understand that and is required, phenomenal things can happen!

the last ten years:
🌳 155.000 new trees
🌬️ 40% less air pollution
🚲 550 new kilometers of bike path
🏫 205 (!) school streets
🤸‍♂️131 green playgrounds

Now the kids are teenagers, the opportunities to cycle as a family are increasingly few and far between.

On the rare occasion we do, it brings back memories of raising them on two wheels; quality time spent together navigating the streets of our city.

Oh, the places we’ve gone!

Floral tributes laid at the scene of a crash in Edinburgh last night which has left one man dead & a teenager fighting for his life. Emergency services were called to Corstorphine Rd at around 10:50pm after a car crashed into a wall near Balgreen Rd. More on STV News at 6:45pm

Continuous footway (the raised section) is really only appropriate when traffic volumes are very low, like in a cul-de-sac - here it is not the case because The City of Edinburgh Council have enabled short-cutting by cars & lorries through a residential area

Another article about the Critical Mass Edinburgh ride, highlighting the huge unbudgetted £400,000 cost of replacing a successful, safe quiet route in order to allow more through traffic in a residential area. edinburghlive.co.uk/news/edinburgh…

Nice to see Jarlath who is Edinburgh's Bike Bus Czar speaking at Critical Mass. Really highlighting that the modal filters at braid road (soon to be removed by the council) have encouraged many parents to start cycling to school rather than driving.

Just a few weeks ago, councillors in voted to have more vehicles on residential streets by removing the Blackford Safe Routes on the Braid Estate - possibly 4000 more a day.

Are these the types of vehicles we want rat running through residential streets?

Kids have lost the freedom to roam. This is directly linked to greater feelings of loneliness, weaker sense of community, a lower sense of safety & less frequent social activities with friends.

Find out how 'childhood velonomy' helps them to regain it: urbancyclinginstitute.org/from-intensive…
