In every bleaching event, the amount of bleaching and mortality, and where it occurs, closely matches the level of heat exposure (measured as Degree Heating Weeks)

Tragically, we now have 7 bleaching maps for the Great Barrier Reef.

In 2016, 30% of the corals died. 51% died in the northern region that year.

In 2024, the extent and severity of bleaching is much greater, and mortality of corals on orange reefs has already exceeded 50%.
