Before jumping into the water for the crayweed planting activity, the We Are Explorers volunteers helped us collect some important data, including establishing whether the crayweed was male or female. You can determine the sex by the patterns on their blades!
We had so much fun on Saturday with We Are Explorers , who helped us plant crayweed in Coogee. Thanks to all the Explorers for your great work and enthusiasm, and to Wylie's Baths for hosting us. Here are some incredible photos taken by Tom Burd. More photos from the day to come!
Last week we installed mats in Coogee/Lurline in preparation for community planting in partnership with We Are Explorers happening next month! Once our transplanted crayweed reproduces and we start seeing 'craybies' we’ll know the restoration is working and will remove all mats.
Feeling accomplished after some epic SCUBA surveys in southern NSW for our WWF_Australia Innovate to Regenerate project, enhancing the health of kelp forests & returning the benefits straight to the local community

Working in a #tropicalisation hotspot (Tosa Bay Japan) we show that temperate #seaweeds are NOT more palatable than tropical taxa. Overgrazing of #kelp here is likely due to consumption during late summer/ autumn when ephemeral #Sargassum disappears nature.com/articles/s4159…
