Today marks the beginning of AAPI Heritage Month! This month, and throughout the year, we celebrate and honor the contributions, histories, and traditions of our diverse AAPI communities. Our AAPI Caucus is 8 members strong—the highest number in General Assembly history.

Summoning excessively armed, militarized police onto college campuses to violently arrest unarmed students engaged in non-violent protest - students surviving and matriculating through the mass shooting generation - is shameful, misguided, and inhumane.

If the intention is to create a chilling effect on student encampments across the country, our opponents are badly underestimating national youth sentiment on the genocide in Gaza & misunderstanding how student movements typically respond and grow in the face of repression.

What’s happening tonight at
Columbia University University and City College of NY is a travesty and a violation of both student and human rights.

This is a shameful day.

The Senate's misguided proposal to add new flights at DCA would jeopardize safety and cause even greater complications and delays at this already overcrowded airport.
 
I join my National Capital Region colleagues in opposing this change.
