We have at long last published our very first lab's paper!

Starting up this adventure of building a lab in late 2019 has been the absolute hardest thing I've done. But I'm pretty proud of my team and how far we've come and what we worked to overcome.

Are , , & truly the best models for exploring animal origins?

While these lineages have been so far pivotal to address the origin of animals (and they surely will continue to be!!), eDNA has revealed that there…

Thank you very much for this award. Extremely honored, I but want stress the significant contributions to the story by all my colleagues I worked with over the years. So sorry that Osnabruck is now too far away for me to be there. Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen Universität Tübingen

Risking eternal damnation for breaking Lent, but totally worth it to hawk this interview with Richard Harland for the Spemann-Mangold Centenary later this year. Left his lab over 20 years ago and he's still my most trusted advisor, and a friend. Enjoy.

There is a certain magic in the question what defines an animal, a plant, or a mushroom that keeps naturalists passionately debating for centuries. For me the molecular perspective is a particularly fascinating story and it is a tale of ancient genes.

How did we lose our tail? A simple question.. but it wasn't really asked before! We discovered a plausible scenario for the genetic mechanism that led to tail loss. Amazing that such a big change may have been caused by such a small genetic event. nature.com/articles/s4158… Bo Xia
