Shocking scenes on my walk by the river today in #Cambridge ! Hundreds of dead fish by the banks of the river, starting to smell. All the way along Ditton Meadows? Any idea why Anglian Water? I hope itโs nothing to do with sewage dumping???
Our new paper led by Alissa Bass is now out. Our experiments showed that marine heatwaves and decreased water clarity interact to erode performance of habitat-forming kelp species.......

Our new paper (from Mathilde Jackson-Buรฉ PhD thesis) examines the structure of fish assemblages within UK kelp forests. Hopefully the start of a useful baseline for monitoring. We were surprised to see such clear trends in fish diversity with latitude ๐ง๐๐ฑ๐๐
Last week we came across a non native, drifting bull kelp (Durvillea) in Ryder Bay British Antarctic Survey ๐ง Rafts can transport other non native species to the continent. We found open water goose barnacles (Lepas australis). These are not a threat but harmful invaders can also hitch a ride
๐ข๐Funded #PhD University of Plymouth to study how storm impacts on beaches influence coastal fish pop'ns. Combines field sampling + lab biochem + stats of big data w/ parallel #teaching opportunity.
