Samoa🇼🇸 says they are 'a little confused about what just happened' - the package of climate measures at #COP28 was just launched by the UAE when small-island states were not in the room.

AOSIS Samoa on behalf of AOSIS:

'In terms of safeguarding 1.5C in a meaningful way —the language is certainly a step forward, it speaks to transitioning away from fossil fuels in a way the process has not done before.' #COP28

Samoa, on behalf of AOSIS, say GST decision gavelled through when they were not in the room. 'This process has failed us.' Saying they are *not* happy with text + in particular para 26 on science. #COP28

The COP28 UAE's GST draft grossly ignores the science
But the science is clear. The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change + World Health Organization (WHO)'s health stocktake; UN Environment Programme's Emissions, Adaptation & production gap reports; World Meteorological Organization's state of the climate, & more coincide:
Fossil fuels are incompatible w/ a liveable future

Klar kommt es für das Klima auf die Emissionen an, wir müssen sie für 1,5° in 7 Jahren halbieren! Aber auch nach Jahrzehnten gibt es keine bezahlbare Lösung, das CO2 aufzufangen. CCS hat sich als teurer Flop erwiesen.

The African Group has issued a statement on #Cop28 . Unlike developed country statements, it starts with the global goal on adaptation and only later moves on to the global stocktake. It says it will not agree on anything unless its priorities on adaptation are met. 🧵

The text refers to the human right to health and the human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, but falls far short of adequate provisions for healthy climate action.

The current Global Stocktake text is weak across the board. If COP28 is to deliver for health as promised, we need ambitious commitments across mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage and finance. Parties are negotiating human lives. #COP28UAE
