Driven by an insatiable need for more churches, Mouse again declares #FontsMeanFarewell and sets off on the next leg of the #AvonScamper2024 . Down to Great Woodford, over the bridge and back up the other side. The River Avon is an ever present now. How exciting!
The next stop on the #AvonScamper2024 . Welcome to the church of St. Andrew, Great Durnford #Wiltshire . A late C12 church with changes from C13-C16. Unusually no significant C19 restoration is evident. Excited yet? Mouse is. #SteepleSaturday #StAndrewDurnford
#FontsMeanFarewell was the starting pistol for a sprint back to the #Wiltshire #Avon to resume the #Avon Scamper2024. Mouse finds herself in Wilsford at the Church of St. Michael. A little peek through the yew. #StMichaelWilsford sits under a watery spring sky. #SteepleSaturday
Mouse finds herself in Amesbury #Wiltshire . Drive through this town close to the A303 and you'd be forgiven for thinking it's a modern dormitory town but it has a medieval heart. An important one too. Welcome to the church of St. Mary and St. Melor and it's open! #AvonScamper2024
#StLeonardsBulford . More wonderful remnants of the Romanesque on the #AvonScamper2024 . C12 nave and chancel, C13 tower with re-set Norman door and windows and C13 chapel to the north. C14 and C16 alterations and then some C19/C20 additions. Atmospheric #SteepleSaturday
Guess what! Yet another All Saints on the #AvonScamper2024 . This time the church of All Saints Durrington. On a thin strip of raised land and dotted with Yew, this is another tricky one to photograph #AllSaintsDurrington
