CA is celebrating Native Plant Week! Clemens Friedell, Pasadena’s Arts and Crafts era silversmith, was known for his closely-observed depictions of the California poppy plant. The Gamble family had two examples in their Pasadena home. #canativeplantweek #gamblehouse

Here are a few of our favorites from the gardens: California lilac (ceanothus), fragrant pitcher sage (Lepechinia fragrant), California buckwheat (Eriogonum fasciculatum), Red-flowered Buckwheat (Eriogonum grande rubescens).

Hummingbird Sage (Salvia spathacea) is a magnet for pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
It can be spotted along Mission Creek at Oak Park near Tallant Road, at the Arroyo Burro Open Space, and Arroyo Burro at Hidden Valley Park. #CANativePlantWeek #SBCreeks

Chaparral Mallow, or Malacothamnus fasciculatus, is an evergreen shrub with pink flowers that grow in clusters along it's branches.

You can enjoy Chaparral Mallow along the walking path at the Arroyo Burro Open Space.

Western Sycamore (Platanus racemora) have twisted branches, large leaves that turn orange-yellow in autumn, and are generally found near creeks and rivers.
Hidden Valley Park is home to one of our staff's favorite Sycamores, on the bank of Arroyo Burro.

Narrowleaf Milkweed (Asclepias fascicularis), a perennial plant producing clusters of pinkish-white flowers and smooth seed pods. This species is vital to Monarchs in California.

California Fuchsia, or Epilobium canum, is a striking perennial native, favorite of hummingbirds, and often found near creeks thriving in full sun.
