One of my favourite City of London churches and, of course, one Sir Christopher Wren had a hand in. Excellent coffee and food to be found here too Host Café, St Mary Aldermary, Bow Lane

Today I led my first tour as part of the CoL Guides 🇺🇦 team offering private group tours of St Stephen Walbrook (@StStephenEC4N), one of the finest Wren churches in The City of London. What a pleasure it was! More on the tours at this link:

A worried Robert Dow leans on a skull on his 1612 memorial at St Botolph Aldgate, London. An added inscription says it was repaired by the Company of Marchant Taylors in 1675, perhaps vandalism during the Civil War or Commonwealth?

The map maker John Speed, 1629 at St Giles Cripplegate, London. He seems a jolly sort, although apparently his likeness was based on his death mask. There was an Easter Egg in each of his skull's eye sockets when I took this.

Today's the feast of St Anne and St Joachim, by tradition the parents of the Blessed Virgin. The non-canonical Gospel of St James tells their story. Their marriage in glass by Carl Edwards, 1968 at St Andrew by the Wardrobe, London.

The altar at St Stephen Walbrook by Henry Moore, born 1898. Part of Peter Palumbo's restoration, and controversial at the time for the way it disrupts the music-in-stone of Wren's exquisitely correct mathematical proportions. 1/2

The composer Johann Sebastian Bach was born 21 March 1685. He appears in the Henry Wood memorial window at St Sepulchre, Newgate in the City of London, c1950 by the AK Nicholson workshop, presumably designed by GER Smith.
