The penultimate day of the year is a good day to celebrate the wonderful The Amazing Mr Blunden (1972). Based on The Ghosts by Antonia Barber, this classic film (along with The Railway Children) demonstrated the creative genius of Lionel Jeffries.

When Mr Cribbins and I were writing his autobiography the person he talked about most (apart from Gill), was Lionel Jeffries. 'LI could do anything,' he said. 'Talent to burn.' Anyway, it's Lionel's birthday today so here he is making his entrance in the seminal Two Way Stretch.

That brilliant actor and director Lionel Jeffries was born on this day in Forest Hill in 1926 . He gave us many things but for my money his two greatest achievements were The Railway Children and The Amazing Mr Blunden.
