This gorgeous mineral is found only in the rocks of Castleton, Derbyshire. Blue John is a colour banded form of fluorspar, and has been mined since the mid-1700s. By the late 1700s, it was a popular choice for columns and vases in fine houses across the country! #MineralMonday

Chalcopyrite is probably the most important and major source of copper, and the most abundant copper ore. This on is beautiful with brassy chalcopyrite crystals and fluorite cubes that look almost regal. It is likely to be from the Carn Brea area. #MineralMonday
415 million years ago, this jasper cobble & masses of other debris got transported by a flash flood, eventually forming the conglomerates in Auchmithie. Therefore, this cobble has been around for significantly longer & is quite probably > 1 billion years old. Wild! #MineralMonday
