Getting ready to chat to ABC Canberra about the dreaded Patient Tax. Unless action is taken on the payroll tax hit, the federal Government’s investment in boosting bulk-billing figures will be for nothing. Patients across Australia will miss out on vital care.

Great to see our RACGP South Australia chair Dr Sian Goodson launching a campaign at her practice in Elizabeth this morning urging the Government to immediately intervene and stop the Patient Tax crippling general practice care. No patients should miss out.

We & RACGP are keeping your nonsensical on the front page so our government knows exactly why it will hit our most vulnerable Queenslanders the hardest. A state tax on your access to federally funded healthcare just doesn't add up. AMA Media

A great result in South Australia. Following hard work from our RACGP SA team Stephen Mullighan MP has announced GPs will be permanently exempted from paying payroll tax on earnings. We now have the clarity we've been asking for. A win for patients.

A big win in Victoria! RACGP Victoria warmly welcomes Tim Pallas providing retrospective exemption from the payroll tax hit. It will help practices keep their doors open, and care for patients in need. GPs state-wide now have the certainty we have been asking for.

A momentous day for patient care. As RACGP Victorian Chair Anita Munoz told Shannon Deery and Mitch Clarke - we're grateful the Allan Government has taken retrospective taxation off the table. This move will help keep local GPs’ doors open.

Thank you Tasmanian Labor for listening and committing to rule out extra payroll tax for Tassie's GPs. This is risking practice closures and higher patient fees in other states. cairnspost.com.au/news/tasmania/…

As Will Di Fulvio reports a consult with your GP is about to become more expensive. That is unless the South Australian Government heeds our calls and intervenes on the Patient Tax. If action isn't taken, many patients across the state will miss out on the care they need.

AMA Queensland has been actively advocating against for almost two years. Tim Arvier takes us back to November 2022 when Dr Maria Boulton first raised the alarm. Finally we have some certainty for patients and GPs - this is a sensible govt move.

The Patient Tax will leave practices in South Australia with little choice but to hike patient out-of-pocket fees or close. More patients will miss out on care + pile into already over-crowded hospital ERs. The clock is ticking. We need action. abc.net.au/news/2024-03-1…

As our RACGP NSW/ACT Chair Rebekah Hoffman told Claire Fenwicke - the Patient Tax is taking a toll. The ACT Government has left GPs with no choice but to increase fees or close their doors. We need action, or patients will miss out on care.

A must read. As I told Jake T Evans the Patient Tax is undermining federal investment in boosting bulk-billing rates. Unless action is taken on the payroll tax hit in all states and territories, practices will be forced to hike fees or close.

A huge missed opportunity. As RACGP Vic Chair Anita Munoz told Cate Swannell a $10 grant program but nothing on the payroll tax hit is like like putting a band aid on a patient who’s lost both their legs. We need action on the ASAP.

Payroll tax on tenant GPs is effectively a . Practices pay payroll tax for their staff - reception, admin, nurses - but the GPs who work there are contractors. The law hasn't changed - the interpretation has.

The headline says it all. As Josephine Lim reports the Patient Tax will force practices across South Australia to hike patient out-of-pocket fees or close their doors. We need the Government to save general practice care. The clock is ticking down.
