Did you know The California Coast wrote a 14-page memo criticizing AB2097 and discussing ways how they and local governments can get around it?

This is a rogue agency. They don’t believe they should follow state law, and actively attack efforts to reign them in (e.g SB423)

This is a *wildly* misleading paragraph.

This year, California YIMBY partnered with organized labor to pass SB423 (streamlining union-built housing), with equity groups to pass SB684 (affordable homeownership), and with faith based organizations to pass SB4 (“Yes in God’s Backyard”).

The California coastal zone is currently exempt from SB35, which streamlines approvals for apartment construction. SB423 from Senator Scott Wiener would remove that exemption, and developments that meet the criteria would no longer be subject to Coastal Commission approval

I'd never actually read the full text of SB423. Looking at it now and I love that the 'fuck San Francisco' clause is literally just one sentence lol. Just 15 words to help put our City and County in its place

My colleague's ( Senator Scott Wiener )is crucial because it increases affordable housing, speeds up project approvals, boosts the economy, reduces environmental impact, and promotes housing equity.

Senate Bill 423, on its way to the Governor's desk for his signature, will bring us one step closer to addressing the state's housing crisis while securing prevailing wages and benefits for ALL construction workers.

As a Surfrider LA member & environmentalist, I believe @Surfrider is making a mistake by opposing SB423—a bill in the CA legislature that streamlines multi-family housing in urban areas. Denser housing protects our oceans & increases access.

A bit late to the game, Phil Brock! SB423 has been approved in the Senate on a 29-5 vote, in the Assembly on a 61-8 vote, and will soon be on Newsom’s desk for signature. Why oppose a bill with such overwhelmingly support from the legislature and labor unions?

“Once SB423 goes into effect and SF flunks its state assessment, getting new housing approved will be much more like getting your license renewed at the DMV: You fill out some basic paperwork, pay the processing fees and wait in line for your short appointment at the counter.”

Also spoke to Ben at Linc Housing this week about what's at stake with (which essentially extends for another 10 yrs), and the general challenges we're facing in LA when it comes to our affordable housing backlog.
