Did you know The California Coast wrote a 14-page memo criticizing AB2097 and discussing ways how they and local governments can get around it?
This is a rogue agency. They don’t believe they should follow state law, and actively attack efforts to reign them in (e.g SB423)
This is a *wildly* misleading paragraph.
This year, California YIMBY partnered with organized labor to pass SB423 (streamlining union-built housing), with equity groups to pass SB684 (affordable homeownership), and with faith based organizations to pass SB4 (“Yes in God’s Backyard”).
The California coastal zone is currently exempt from SB35, which streamlines approvals for apartment construction. SB423 from Senator Scott Wiener would remove that exemption, and developments that meet the criteria would no longer be subject to Coastal Commission approval
Amazing seeing unveiling of SF (affordable 🏘️) #Kapuso project due to #SB35 !
We attended because we too have seen impact of SB35 in East Bay. The continuation, #SB423 (co author Buffy Wicks not able to make it), is on Gavin Newsom’s desk to be signed🤞 for a better future❤️❤️🏘️
Senate Bill 423, on its way to the Governor's desk for his signature, will bring us one step closer to addressing the state's housing crisis while securing prevailing wages and benefits for ALL construction workers. #SB423 #JobsWagesBenefits #AffordableHousing
We are proud to announce that #SB4 23 and #SB4 have just passed the California Assembly! Thank you to Senator Senator Scott Wiener for leading the charge on these landmark bills that will streamline the construction of affordable housing across the state and ensure prevailing wages for…
As a Surfrider LA member & environmentalist, I believe @Surfrider is making a mistake by opposing SB423—a bill in the CA legislature that streamlines multi-family housing in urban areas. Denser housing protects our oceans & increases access.

A bit late to the game, Phil Brock! SB423 has been approved in the Senate on a 29-5 vote, in the Assembly on a 61-8 vote, and will soon be on Newsom’s desk for signature. Why oppose a bill with such overwhelmingly support from the legislature and labor unions?
Looks like the room is packed with support for #SB4 and #SB4 23! Great to see but bummed I am under the weather today and can’t show some love in person to all the housing peeps but Louis Mirante has this more than handled👍🏼 Bay Area Council
We want to recognize the courage of Heath Flora, Josh Hoover, Devon J. Mathis, Assemblymember Chris Ward, Assemblymember Jim Wood, Rick Chavez Zbur Laura Friedman. Your support for affordable housing through SB423 will have a direct positive impact on so many lives. Thank you!
