Three stunning Avocets are currently enjoying a bit of r'n'r on the Adur Estuary SSSI. 😍

Such delicate birds, they are always worth a look. 💚

So get down to the Adur if you can before they move on!

Invert survey on a Northumberland SSSI today. Sunny & warm save for a 45 minute intense downpour. Woodland, scrub, grassland and wetland vegetation communities.

Butterflies: 2 individuals;
Bumblebees: 1;
Solitary bees: 3 individuals.

Utterly pathetic.

It was worth risking life and wellie in treacherous fetid mud to get close to this beautiful patch of Whorl-grass (Catabrosa aquatica) at Pilch Fields SSSI. I won’t mention the equally beautiful patch I found in a much safer spot afterwards…

Sewage seeping into the Afon Eden is causing spikes in ammonia and phosphorus.

We traced the source back up to the STW. We found two leaks leaching into the land drains and into the Eden. The Eden is a SAC & SSSI for key species.

We have notified Welsh Water & Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru | Natural Resources Wales 💩

Seen in Plymouth by Billacombe meadow SSSI. Is it perhaps Mangora acalypha? (In centre of bramble leaves.) Thank you to BAS for any comments.

Pelidnoptera nigripennis - a fine Sciomyzid fly of shady woods that is most frequently encountered in the Scottish Highlands. I have found it occasionally at a few sites in lowland Angus, including this one from Rossie Moor SSSI yesterday.
