๐ŸชธCaptured this rare shot of Acropora hyacinthus with its eggs set, just moments before spawning. The polyps of this species are tiny, housed in corralites only 0.4 - 1.1mm in diameter. Awesome

New preprint: Genome assemblies and genetic maps for Caribbean Acropora palmata and A. cervicornis!
Both species have 14 chromosomes and largely similar genome structure. Notable exceptions were a 2.5Mb inversion and a 1.4 Mb translocation.

Have you ever seen a Purple-eyed Goby (Bryaninops natans)? This small (less than an inch long!) goby is known for its eye-catching bright pink to purple eyes and are associated with Acropora corals. I photographed this individual in Apo Reef Natural Park, Philippines.

The extent of the damage can be seen from the sky...The remaining colonies of Acropora palmata (after decades of decline) are fully bleached in some reefs.

As our Acropora corals have bloomed in our Tiaia nursery, a giant school of blue chromis damselfish have moved into this new source of life for shelter. Check out our garden in real-time and up close through our ReefOS livestream: bit.ly/3YmdyHv

Amazing reef yesterday with solid coral diversity. Saw a few favorites, including this table Acropora and brain coral (is it Favia? Montastrea?). Nice to see a healthy reef, given the news from the rest of the world.
