When I was an undergrad at UChicago, I worked for the stat department as a consultant, mostly helping masters students with limited quant knowledge to finish their theses. During the first consult the student asked me, “Can you help me make my p-values <0.05?”

I need econtwitter / statstwitter help.

I want to use run statistical power calculations for a randomized experiment. I want to do so using randomization inference (RI) or a related approach.

Is there sample code or guidance? Ideally Stata but R ok.

I'm well versed in using RI

I'm happy to discuss my new working paper, The Need for Equivalence Testing in Economics! I show that null results in top econ journals exhibit high error rates. I propose equivalence testing as a methodological solution. 1/x

Hey what do we think about the following notation for a correlation between X and Y after selecting on some third variable, Z?

Okay so I went ahead and derived it, if can check whether this is correct that would be awesome. To clarify, this is the conversion formula for a tetrachoric correlation to a phi coefficient.

My father-in-law is a scientist. He is insanely gifted. We were looking at a research paper together years ago and I asked him what it would cost to write it today. I will never forget his answer… 'We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.'

Statstwitter, there was once a figure making the rounds here where it had turned out the uncertainty bars were “estimated” as the point estimate +/- 50%.

Anyone ‘member?

I need it for science reasons

Midday question:

When do you decide to use GPs over splines?

Posed this to @[email protected] in his (very good) webinar on HSGPs, and his feeling was that kernels provide more interpretability over splines, curious to hear other thoughts.

Hey , how do I do what I'm doing* with nicer code?

*I'm trying to pivot_longer() multiple indexed variables where each variable gets a column.

Hi ,
With a multilevel GLM with a binomial link function, e.g., glmer(y~treatment * time + (1 | id), what is the best way to report the probability differences between the groups in the text of an article? (1/3)
