Without a camera and lens to get a close-up I didn't expect to get a good photo of one of The Royal Parks 's kestrels, but this one swooped in and just watched me pass no more than 2 metres away on the way to work. The British Nature Guide .

Bushy Park was home to almost 8,000 US troops during the Second World War after Camp Griffiss had been established in the north-east corner of the park in 1942.

Here we see servicemen who called Hut number 7 home between 1942-1944.

Great to see The Royal Parks doing such a great job of managing grasslands at Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Way too few insects though. But amazing flowers and grasses left to do their thing.

For the 50th anniversary of the entrance used by General Eisenhower was reopened and named SHAEF Gate.

Although the Camp Griffiss wartime buildings were demolished in 1963, a brick pavement sits on the site of Eisenhower’s office as testament to his presence here.

Today marks 79 years since

Bushy Park played a huge role in Operation Overlord - with General Eisenhower moving the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Forces to the park in February 1944 to began planning.
