Last week, our Head of Rugby invested in some alternate rugby balls for training, so I wrote a bit about Differential Learning and how it could be useful.

This is a great study and video resource. Can we modify max speed running posture ? Yes we can and we need more research like this m.youtube.com/watch?v=s1dnt7… pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34794121/

Game movement patterns aren't linear

They're not cone to cone

They're not waiting a turn

They're not predictable

They're chaotic

They're multi directional

They're impulsive

There's decisions to be made

There's problems to solve

And training should be no different

Only a week to go before we host Ian Jeffreys, Tom Dos'Santos and Shawn Myszka for our latest roundtable focusing on agility training.

We will discuss creating agility drills to maximise transfer to the field/court as well as many other things.

I’m going to go through my key skills model with a focus on analysis and training - I’ll go as far into reactive progressions as people would like!

Key skills is all about training for skills which transfer between COD types, rather than learning specific techniques 👊

The more I see, the less I trust CMJ scores off mats

Yes they can be done reliably, but that doesn’t mean they are BEING done reliably. It’s tuck city out there

One scroll through Instagram makes you realise just how easily people convince themselves of their own effectiveness

Are the movement strategies seen in the lab similar to strategies used by athletes on the field/court?
How can we add unpredictability & variability into training to prepare athletes for match play demands?

Some thoughts I've been having recently.

Athletic development requires ability to develop athletic qualities (capacities) and facilitate these qualities in sport (skills).

Only developing one or the other is limiting. Context drives content.
