Squirrelpox disease. It leads to dramatic red squirrel population declines and hastens regional extinction. It's spread by grey squirrels. So the return of grey squirrels to Anglesey is bad news.

Let's reduce numbers of reds being killed by traffic. We are experimenting with different rope designs to find out which would be most suitable for Anglesey bridges.

Last grey removed from #Anglesey 2013. Genetic research revealed animals found here 2015-2019 had dispersed in. Now 2024 we have greys breeding on the island.
Lots of local people putting cameras out, spreading the word, playing a key role in preventing grey re-establishment📷🐿️
