Where did the #Winchcombe meteorite come from? And how did it end up crash landing on a driveway?

Really excited to see what this instrument can do for meteor science, too. It should be able to catch large bolides (which will look similar to the lightning flashes it’s designed to detect). Could be helpful for UK Fireball Alliance meteorite recovery work.
Some great clips appearing of a bright meteor bolide that was widely seen from the UK, France, Belgium & the Netherlands during twilight yesterday morning.

@UKMeteorNetwork It's a gorgeous #fireball !!! Was also caught by the SCAMP - a component of the FRIPON network camera Jodrell Bank
If you have security cam/dashcam footage, or saw the fireball, do submit a report via @UKMeteorNetwork at: ukmon.imo.net/members/imo/re… Eyewitness info can be really useful for building a picture of the event, and can help teams like UK Fireball Alliance do their work.

A 2 kg rocky meteoroid observed in February 2021 is shown to be coming directly from the Oort cloud, indicative of a high ice/rock ratio there (1-20%) and supportive of a massive proto-asteroid belt scenario. Vida (Denis Vida) et al.: nature.com/articles/s4155…
