Last night the Governor welcomed some of the crew of the Falklands-flagged Royal Research Ship Sir David Attenborough before they departed for Antarctica this morning.

The #Falklands and British Antarctic Survey has built a strong relationship over the years.

Sail into the heart of Antarctica's largest sea ice factory with us, where 12 Kiwi researchers onboard the Laura Bassi saw sea ice retreat first hand, collected sediment cores and studied coastal ecosystems in the Ross Sea region MPA.

24 years after I first came to Grytviken and it’s as exciting a feeling every time I come back. This is the latest I’ve been here and winters onset is certainly pretty stunning. Great to see the RSS Sir David Attenborough alongside at KEP too #SouthGeorgia

Today I was sent these pictures of a Lego model of the RRS Sir David Attenborough, made by a colleague of my daughter. On appears to have me and my daughter on some sea ice and Boaty McBoatface is there also. Made my day!

Yesterday it emerged that Natural Environment Research Council is unable to fund two major proposals aimed at understanding ice sheet behaviour, despite the science being assessed as excellent.
