Sail into the heart of Antarctica's largest sea ice factory with us, where 12 Kiwi researchers onboard the Laura Bassi saw sea ice retreat first hand, collected sediment cores and studied coastal ecosystems in the Ross Sea region MPA.

This article from the BBC, including recent pics taken from on board the RRS Sir David Attenborough, explains the demise of a giant iceberg. Some great graphics are used.

'One Ship Problem' is not unique to Australia; it comes up pretty much every time someone yeets a 600-page list of requirements in our general direction. However, at that point we are rarely in a position to question the client's operational concept.🧵

Although Nuyina is a magnificent research and supply vessel, in hindsight having two smaller ships could have been smarter: one dedicated for scientific research at sea and the other for transporting cargo and personnel to Antarctic bases. abc.net.au/news/2024-04-0…

24 years after I first came to Grytviken and it’s as exciting a feeling every time I come back. This is the latest I’ve been here and winters onset is certainly pretty stunning. Great to see the RSS Sir David Attenborough alongside at KEP too

Today I was sent these pictures of a Lego model of the RRS Sir David Attenborough, made by a colleague of my daughter. On appears to have me and my daughter on some sea ice and Boaty McBoatface is there also. Made my day!

On Monday Environmental Audit Committee asked 'Should the UK provide more support for Antarctic climate science?'
Yesterday it emerged that Natural Environment Research Council is unable to fund two major proposals aimed at understanding ice sheet behaviour, despite the science being assessed as excellent.
