With great sadness, we confirm that two of our colleagues were killed by gunmen today in South Darfur, Sudan. Three other were injured.

Impressed by South Sudan Red Cross & ICRC teams helping people connect with their loved ones, assist with basic needs & care for the wounded.

The influx of displaced people is creating significant challenges for local communities. More aid must reach the residents as well as those uprooted.

Our teams in South Sudan delivered much needed assistance to people fleeing the conflict in Sudan.

This week, we are hosting in Pretoria François Moreillon, Head of ICRC in DRC raising the plight of conflict-affected people in Eastern DRC. With Jules Amoti, they will meet with key stakeholders in South Africa. ICRC Africa

Today at the Vienna Conference on Autonomous Weapons we call for new, legally binding international rules, to prohibit those autonomous weapon systems that pose the gravest risk for IHL compliance and our values, and to place strict constraints on all others 👇🏽

Mohamed Khalel was sitting outside his home in Khartoum, Sudan, when he was caught in a crossfire.
Hit by a bullet, his life was saved by paramedics.
But Mohamed couldn't afford the surgery to remove the bullet lodged in his body, and he now struggles with increasing pain.

ICRC Ethiopia & ICRC to AfricanUnion organized an event on the application of international humanitarian law (IHL) & networking on April 29, 2024.

Stanislas Kalina, Deputy Head of ICRC_Rwanda paid a courtesy visit to Grace Nyinawumuntu, DG for Europe, Americas & Int'l Organizations Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Int'l Cooperation.

They discussed humanitarian matters of mutual interest in #Rwanda and in the region and exchanged on ongoing partnerships between🇷🇼& @ICRC.

The destruction and harm inflicted upon civilians by heavy explosive weapons is not an acceptable nor inevitable by-product of urban warfare.

We call on all states to join the Political Declaration #EWIPAOslo

Main objective of the meeting is to enable the exchange of views between the contaminated Member States party to the Convention & partners on areas of possible support including innovative approaches for cost-effective, safe& fast de-mining in Africa.

As part of Int'l #MineAwareness Day commemoration, African Union& ICRC to AfricanUnion held a meeting of contaminated AU Member States that are parties to the Convention on Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production& Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines& their Destruction, 19Apr24.

The roundtable reaffirmed the commitment of African states and partners to a mine-free #Africa . This includes a renewed push for a universal adherence to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC) and to consider innovative technology to detect & clear mines.
