Some deeper areas of the Great Barrier Reef are insulated from harmful heatwaves .. but researchers from @UQScience and University of Exeter say that protection will be lost if global warming continues.

Pocilloporid stock-recruitment relationships exist at a small scale, and seem to be impacted by thermal stress. Thanks Peter Mumby for the exciting collab...stay tuned for more cool research from this reef tract! 🪸

How do schooling batfish (Platax) manage to be idle so much of the time? Herbies usually have to feed frequently. Caribbean grunts are also idle but they're waiting to feed in lagoon at night. Is this a clue? We know very little about them. <15 relevant studies. IG peteuwater

Well this is a first... Filming an experiment Heron Island Research Station and reached down to steady myself only to be attacked by a clam. I had unwittingly placed a finger in its mouth and it turns out they take exception to this. I blame it on inadequate risk assessment😊
